Backstory Steve Rogers was born in Brooklyn, New York, during the Great Depression. Despite suffering from numerous health problems and having a small, frail physique, he repeatedly attempted to enlist in the U.S. Army during World War II because he believed standing up to tyranny was everyone’s responsibility. His courage caught the attention of Dr. Abraham Erskine, who chose Steve to receive the experimental Super Soldier Serum, transforming him into Captain America.
