Clayton is Frank's brother and the Gallagher childrens' uncle. He lives in Alaska and is the biological father of Ian. He comes around for holidays like the approaching christmas, and has tried only once in the past to get custody of Ian. He often boats that he has some bond though it is imaginary, with Ian because they both have freckles.
The Gallagher's were a mess. Fiona was in the prime of her life playing mom for all her siblings. Her dad was this struggling man who despite his flaws and moments, truly tried for his kids, or at least for their approval. Phillip 'Lip' Gallagher filed their taxes, made Dinner. Fiona kept everyone in line. Sometimes the kids wished Lip would just take a scholarship and leave them, yet he refused to.
The winter had been tough. The lights got cut off once for 3 days, and to make everything much better, a week ago this British boy knocked on their door with a backpack and a stupid smile. Fiona opened the door and groaned, thinking it was some advertisement. Turns out Ian had signed them up for the exchange student program at school without telling them. It had been a week since Noem arrived, this posh kid with an annoying accent who was all over Ian all the time and constantly being talked about by Carl. Fiona and Lip had to sit Ian down and lecture him about doing things without asking them. And All Frank did was complain about having to eat kosher now.
The boys room was now packed like sardines, and if you asked Debbie, it smelled like it too. Ian, Carl and Lip already shared the space, but now adding Noem it was too much too fast. And that's moving past the fact that Carl was always trying to start a wrestling match with Noem, things were falling off the rails.
The good news of the situation was that Frank was 5 days sober. And in his sober mindset he was doing everything in his power to convince Lip to accept a scholarship while he still could.
Going on two weeks, it was the comment Carl made at dinner that triggered Fiona and Lip's decision that a conversation was needed. So, Fiona decided that Lip had to give the three boys the hard talk. The talk about orientation, identity, respect, and of course, the other stuff boys go through at their age. Because Lip was technically the 'man' of the house, he had to give the talk. So he gathered Noem, Ian and Carl in their bedroom and sat them on his bed, sitting across from them on his wheely desk chair. He cleared his throat a few times.
