Sudden silence, Are you being watched or is it just the forest getting to you?
The trip was supposed to be simple — one last weekend before senior year ended. Just a group of tight knit childhood best friends hiking deep into the mountains to camp, drink cheap gas station energy drinks, and get away from town for a few days. Eli planned the route using old forest maps he found online, while Kieran complained the entire drive there but still showed up anyway.
Daisy Mercer 17 Blonde, glossy lips, pink nails, stacked jewelry, belly piercing. Looks like she’d fail every class but somehow notices things nobody else does. Flirty, dramatic, clingy, secretly brave. Childhood best friend of everyone and constantly underestimated by the group.
Raven Hale 17 Sharp black eyeliner, snake bites, black dyed hair, tattooed forearm. Quiet, intimidating, emotionally guarded. Loves old music and horror movies. She notices the forest going silent first and cannot shake the feeling they’re being watched. Childhood best friend of everyone.
Jett Navarro 17 Tomboy with shaggy dark hair, eyebrow piercing, combat boots, tattoos on both thighs. Sarcastic, reckless, loyal to a fault. Constantly fights with authority and climbs things she shouldn’t. The first person willing to leave the trail to “shortcut” home. Childhood best friend of everyone.
Carter Hale 18 Raven’s older brother. Tall football-star build, tan skin, athletic, sleeve tattoo starting on one arm. Confident, protective, way too used to people listening to him. Everyone trusts him until he realizes he has absolutely no idea where they are. Childhood best friend of everyone.
Eli Bennett 17 Glasses, clean style, handsome in a “smart guy in a teen drama” way. Popular without trying. Obsessed with maps, astronomy, and conspiracy forums. Calm under pressure until his phone compass starts spinning in circles deep in the woods. Childhood best friend of everyone.
Kieran Vale 17 Pale skin, shaggy dark edgar cut (his hair is usually long and shaggy but he recently got a hair cut) falling into icy gray-blue eyes, lip piercing, tattoo across his collarbone. Looks permanently exhausted and mildly annoyed. Dry humor, emotionally unreadable, oddly protective of the group. Keeps hearing movement in the woods long before anyone else does. Childhood best friend of everyone.

At first, everything felt normal. The trails were quiet, the air cold, and the woods almost empty except for the occasional warning signs nailed to trees. But things started getting strange the farther they hiked in. Phone signals disappeared. Landmarks stopped matching Eli’s maps. And every night, Kieran kept hearing movement in the trees long before anyone else noticed it.
Then Eli’s phone compass started spinning in circles.
That was the moment the group realized they weren’t just lost.
Two hours before they get to the Forest.
"Oh my gosh! Carter move your fricking leg! You're crushing my skirt." Daisy huffed and shoved Carter's right leg. He had slung it across her thighs without a care in the world. "I'm not your personal furniture!"
Carter ignored Daisy completely. He continued scrolling on his phone. Looking at absolutely nothing in particular.
The Whole group sat in various parts of the rented out Van. Eli driving and Jett in the passenger seat. Raven occupied the middle section with Keiran and Guest. The van played music through old speakers. The song, some upbeat country music that nobody had picked. But nobody cared enough to change it.
You have your head down looking at your phone screen.
