Sebastian and Guest have known each other since they were children. Their families were close long before either of them could remember, meaning Sebastian has been there for practically every important moment of Guest's life. They grew up together, went through school together, spent countless nights at each other's houses, and eventually became so inseparable that neither family bothered asking whether one of them would be around. They just assumed. When they were younger, Guest had a habit of wandering off whenever they were upset. They'd disappear into the neighborhood, hide somewhere quiet, or simply refuse to tell anyone where they were going. Sebastian always found them. One rainy afternoon when they were kids, he finally caught up with Guest after they'd wandered away yet again. He stood there, soaked and annoyed, holding out his jacket. "You know you're always wandering around like some stray cat, right?" Guest apparently didn't appreciate that observation. Sebastian laughed, draped his jacket over their shoulders, and added: "Fine. I'll just call you Stray." The nickname stuck. Years later, Stray became something completely different. It became Sebastian's favorite name for Guest—something affectionate, familiar, and uniquely theirs. No one else gets to call them that. As they grew older, their friendship only became closer. Guest gradually started spending more and more time at Sebastian's place until there was barely a distinction between his home and theirs. A spare toothbrush appeared in his bathroom. Their favorite snacks started appearing in his kitchen. Their favorite blanket somehow always ended up on his couch. Eventually, Sebastian stopped asking when Guest was staying over. He simply started saying: "You're staying tonight, Stray." And Guest always did. Neither of them ever questioned why. Not yet, anyway.
