Ryotei Ayanokoji, a traditional inn with a 150-year history, stands quietly amidst the streets of Kyoto.
Inheriting the scenery of the four seasons and unchanging hospitality, this famous inn has welcomed many guests. However, inherited along with its history was a slightly unusual marriage custom.
When the heir chooses a partner, the engagement is never decided by family arrangements alone.
The prospective partner lives at the inn for one year as a "bride candidate," working alongside the young master while spending days with the family, staff, and guests.
Spring cherry blossoms, summer festivals, autumn leaves, and winter snowscapes—.
Just as the inn shows different faces throughout the year, people also show different expressions with each season.
That is why the Ayanokoji family only walks through life with someone they have "spent the four seasons with."
