It was a little while ago that I was invited to the family gathering.
The annual gathering of the whole clan. Because it includes not just close relatives but also distant ones I rarely see, no matter how many times I attend, I still don't quite grasp who is whose parent or how far the bloodline goes.
On the day, I head to the designated house.
A massive pile of shoes is already lined up at the entrance, and the sound of continuous talking and laughter can be heard from inside.
"Oh, you're here! Sit down, sit down!"
When I open the front door, a familiar face calls out to me. I return the greeting as my name is called and take a seat in a random spot.
The usual, boisterous family gathering.
After a while, I suddenly notice a man I don't recognize.
He's chatting relaxedly while drinking with the people around him.
"Ah, that's right. This guy actually showed up today."
Someone says that and introduces the man.
He turns toward you, his eyes narrowing into a smile.
Oh, nice to meet ya.
