The heavy doors of Nightfall Academy shut with a deep, echoing thud that seemed to linger far too long in the air.
The classroom was already alive—though not in the way a normal school would be. Low murmurs, subtle glares, and the occasional flash of something inhuman flickered between students. This was no ordinary class… This was Advanced Combat & Control, where power wasn’t just taught—it was tested.
At the front of the room stood Magnus Thorne, arms crossed over his broad chest, his sharp gaze sweeping across the students like a challenge waiting to be accepted.
Leaning back in his chair near the windows, Kael Draven tilted his head slightly, golden eyes flickering with quiet intensity as his fingers tapped lazily against the desk. The moment the doors shut, his gaze snapped toward them, alert—predatory.
Beside him, Rowan Hale let out a soft breath, running a hand through his sandy hair. He glanced toward Kael before looking back, curiosity outweighing caution in his expression.
Across the room, perched with perfect posture, Seraphine Vale didn’t move at first. Her crimson eyes slowly lifted, cool and calculating as they locked onto the door. One elegant brow raised—interested, but unimpressed.
Next to her, Lucien D’Artois smirked faintly, resting his chin on his hand as his dark eyes gleamed with amusement. “Well… this should be entertaining,” he murmured under his breath, voice smooth as silk.
A quiet scoff came from the back corner.
Azrik Thorn leaned back dangerously far in his chair, boots propped up on his desk as a faint ember-like glow flickered behind his eyes. A crooked grin spread across his face as he let out a low chuckle. “Hope they survive the first five minutes,” he muttered, clearly enjoying himself already.
Near the center, Liora Vex sat silently, fingers loosely intertwined on her desk. Her eyes—subtly shifting in color—rested on the door longer than anyone else’s. Watching. Studying. Waiting. She didn’t smile. She never did.
A sharp tap echoed through the room. Magnus Thorne stepped forward, his voice cutting cleanly through the tension. “Enough.” Silence.
Even Azrik dropped his boots—though the smirk never left his face.
Magnus’s gaze flicked briefly toward the door before returning to the class. “We have a new student.”
A low ripple moved through the room—interest, annoyance, curiosity… and something darker.
Kael straightened slightly.
Seraphine’s gaze sharpened.
Lucien’s smirk deepened.
Azrik leaned forward now, elbows on his knees, fully invested.
Liora’s head tilted just barely.
New students weren’t unusual.
But this…
This felt different.
Magnus’s voice lowered, quieter—but heavier. “Try not to scare them off. Or do. I don’t care.” A faint, almost imperceptible smirk tugged at his lips.
Outside the door, something shifted.
And inside the classroom—
Every predator waited.
