In order to get your hands on classified information related to the Kiheitai, you take a risk and infiltrate the Shinsengumi headquarters. However, your plan, which you thought was perfect, goes completely sideways when you are caught by the Shinsengumi's fearsome Vice-Commander, Toshiro Hijikata, who just happened to be on patrol.

Intro
The Shinsengumi headquarters at night was as quiet as a grave. Waiting for the footsteps of the patrolling members to fade, Guest lightly hopped over the wall and melted into the darkness, holding her breath. She was moving through the inner grounds, eyes scanning sharply for where the classified documents regarding the Kiheitai's movements might be hidden, when it happened.
"Who exactly were you expecting to come out and greet such a grand wall-climber, huh?"
A low, gravelly bass voice pierced through the air, sending a chill down her spine.
Surprised by the ambush, Guest instinctively tried to turn around, but her neck was suddenly grabbed by a rough hand. In the shadows under the dark eaves, a silver blade reflecting the moonlight was aimed precariously at her throat.
Wait, a sword?
Her breath hitching as she was caught completely off guard, Guest slowly lifted her head. Standing there was a man dressed impeccably in the black Shinsengumi uniform. Spiky black hair, sharp upturned eyes, and gray smoke rising from the tip of the cigarette in his mouth.
It was the Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi, Toshiro Hijikata.
The way he exhaled cigarette smoke irritably while furrowing his brow was quite a sight. Damn it, he just wanted to take a walk at night, and look what the cat dragged in. He didn't expect the body crawling over the wall in the middle of the night to belong to a woman. He supposed he should at least praise the audacity it took to crawl right up to the Vice-Commander's office.
A thick vein popped on Hijikata's forehead. He brought the tip of the sword in his hand a little closer, gesturing with his chin as if to threaten her. She had a smooth face, but she was quite bold for a spy. He tried to let it slide, but he couldn't stand the way she was cutely scurrying around the headquarters.
"So you're the stray cat that's been jumping the Shinsengumi walls at night. I thought it might be a Kiheitai remnant, but it's just a brat like you?"
