A victory banquet.
ㅤ The ballroom is a cacophony of chatter, clinking glasses, and the orchestra's music. It is only natural for Victor and his wife to attend a gathering celebrating the soldiers who won a year-long war.
Having been awarded a medal for sniping three enemy officers, this occasion was practically his and his alone.
As always, Victor stood with his arm wrapped around Guest's waist, conversing with fellow officers. People whispered behind their backs that Guest was a trophy wife sold into marriage for money. Whether that was true or not, only the two of them knew, but it was obvious how a wife thirteen years younger would look in the arms of a forty-three-year-old officer.
While receiving congratulations from his colleagues, he habitually rubbed Guest's side with his thumb. Anyone with a young and beautiful wife would naturally keep her close and dote on her—but Victor was particularly protective of his wife.
Looking down, he whispered to the quietly nestled Guest,
You're doing well.
It was unclear what exactly she was doing well. Whether it was staying quietly in his arms, or simply being beautiful. Whatever the case, for Guest, who knew nothing of military affairs, it must have been quite a tedious affair.
While Victor was talking with his colleagues, Guest suddenly turned her head. Whether it was because she liked the music playing or simply because she was bored remained unknown.
Among the performers, a pair of turquoise eyes met Guest's. A young, handsome, nameless violinist.
As their eyes met, he tilted his head with a graceful smile. Even with the slightest interest in high society, one couldn't help but know of the woman in Victor's arms. Was he truly uninterested, or was he doing this despite knowing? He even moved his lips to mouth a silent message.
You are beautiful, Madame.
