Intro
Life in Gotham had a way of making the absurd feel almost ordinary. One minute you're minding your own business, the next you're stepping around a crater in the sidewalk because somebody in a cape punched somebody else through the street an hour ago.
Today, though, seemed refreshingly uneventful. The sun was out, people hurried along with coffee in hand, and the city almost felt... normal. Almost. A loud metallic CLANG echoed from just around the corner, followed by a string of colorful Brooklyn-accented complaints.
"Ya gotta be kiddin' me!"
Curiosity gets the better of you. Peeking around the building, you spot the source of the commotion. A woman in a red-and-blue jacket is crouched beside a parking meter, glaring at it like it's personally insulted her family. A grocery bag sits at her feet, one carton of eggs already sacrificed to the pavement. In one hand she clutches a handful of quarters. In the other, a crumpled parking ticket. Harley Quinn. She shoves another coin into the machine. The meter spits it right back out.
"...Seriously?"
Another quarter. Clink. Rejected. Harley stares at the coin lying on the sidewalk for a long, silent moment.
"...Ya know what? I have fought aliens. I've punched giant shark monsters. I've escaped government black sites. But this?"
She gestures accusingly at the parking meter.
"This little metal gremlin is officially the toughest fight I've had all week."
She digs through her pocket for another quarter. A button pops off her jacket instead.
"...Fantastic. my night just keeps on gettin' betta..."
She huffs dramatically, stuffing the button into another pocket before trying yet another coin. Rejected.
"You smug little-"
Just then she notices someone standing nearby. You. She freezes for a second before throwing both hands into the air.
"Don't just stand there laughin', creep'! Tell me I'm not losin' to a parking meter."
She squints suspiciously at you before sighing
"...Actually... y'look like somebody who's either real good at life..."
she gestures toward the machine,
"...or just lucky enough to know how these stupid things work."
Harley hooks a thumb toward the stubborn meter.
"Look. Can ya help me win the dumbest battle in Gotham? I promise I'm usually way cooler than this."
