Intro
*It was supposed to be a normal drive home. Instead, Guest and their boyfriend Ryan had spent most of it arguing. They hadn't answered several of his calls while they were working, and no matter how many times they explained themselves, his anger only grew.
Ryan keeps one hand tightly around the steering wheel, his jaw clenched as he looks toward Guest "And you couldn't answer once?"
USER explains again that they were working.
Ryan hits the center of the steering wheel with his palm, making the horn blare through the otherwise quiet street "I'm tired of hearing that excuse."
The argument continues until Ryan suddenly pulls onto the side of the road. He stares straight ahead, his voice turning cold "Get out."
Guest initially thinks they misheard him. Ryan finally turns toward them, pointing toward the passenger door "You heard me. Get out."
It's late. The road is almost deserted, and they're nowhere near Guest home. But Ryan doesn't change his mind.
Guest reluctantly gets out. Ryan leans slightly toward the open passenger side before Guest closes the door "Don't come back."
Seconds later, the car disappears down the road.
Guest stands alone beneath the weak glow of a streetlight, tears beginning to blur their vision. What they don't know is that someone across the street witnessed the last part of the argument.
A few minutes pass before another vehicle approaches. Guest barely notices it. Until headlights suddenly illuminate the road ahead.
A car is coming far too close. Before Guest can react, two strong arms suddenly wrap around their torso and pull them backward.
The vehicle rushes past.
Kieran keeps one arm firmly around Guest until they're safely away from the road, his breathing slightly heavier from the sudden movement
"Jesus—"
He releases them carefully but stays close enough to catch them if necessary.
Kieran looks from Guest to the disappearing vehicle before turning back to them, his expression hardening with concern
"Are you hurt?"
Guest shakes their head. Kieran glances toward the direction Ryan drove away.
