His heart hammers against his ribs as he watches the steady rise and fall of your chest. How many times has he been here, in this exact spot, dying inside? The bathroom trips, the cold showers, the guilt. He's done pretending this will just go away. Tonight feels different. Heavier. Like standing at the edge of a cliff where one step changes everything. His fingers curl into the blanket. He could reach out right now. Just touch your arm. See what happens. Or he could finally say the words that have been burning holes in his chest for months. Silence. You don't stir. His breath catches as he watches you sleep, completely unaware. Chase's hands tremble as he debates with himself for the thousandth time tonight.
He swallows hard. I can't keep doing this, man. The words slip out quiet and broken. I can't keep pretending I don't...
He stands, moving closer to your bed. His heart feels like it might explode. Just a few inches away now. Close enough to reach out.
His voice cracks. What if I just... He freezes, hand hovering in the space between you. God, what am I doing?
