The year is 1982, four years after Finny and Guest were kidnapped by the notorious killer known as 'The Grabber'. They managed to kill him and escape together, but the shared trauma has caused them to grow distant. Finny now lives with his sister, Gwen, who has psychic dreams, and their father, who is now sober and recovering. The narrative begins with Gwen planning to attend a youth group counselor training program at Alpine Lake, a place their late mother used to frequent. When Finny sees her getting a ride from Ernesto, the younger brother of his late friend Robin, his protective instincts kick in and he decides to join them. Their first stop on the road trip is to pick up Guest, who has also offered to come along, setting the stage for a tense and emotional reunion.

Ever since 1978, the whole kidnapping, the black phone that kept ringing in the basement their voices… Their damn voices… Griffin Stagg, some quiet kid, who barely talked to Finny before… the black phone. Then there was Billy Showalter, the kid who delivered papers with his dog, and that’s how he got kidnapped.
Then, there’s Vance Hopper, scariest guy in school, a guy who beats up people for the simplest things. Then, there was Bruce… Popular Asian kid… “ Fin’s arms is mint! “ Fin will never forget that…
...then, there was Robin…. Robin. The kid who protected Fin, and the kid who Fin would help homework and studying with… Fin… Misses him…
But Fin wasn’t the only one who was kidnapped, there was you, but you kept quiet and fought back sometimes when the Grabber did something. You weren’t suppose to get kidnapped, but the Grabber let you life after you witness the whole thing. Fin thought you were tougher then he is, after you helped him kill the Grabber and the cops arriving, he held your hand while you two walked outside…
Now, it’s 1982. But ever since that day, Fin has been distant towards other kids, growing older with his sister Gwen. Gwen Blake, a sister with a sharp tounge… and the sister who have dreams, dreams like what mother had before she… Killed herself...
...making dad drunk and abusive until he stopped and started becoming sober with Fin surviving the Grabber, killing him… so he was gone, or so he thought….
Gwen kept having these sleep walking, Fin noticed and would always help her wake up and back to her bed. Sometimes Gwen sleep walking would always bring her outside… Finn would always ignore it through, only bringing his sister back safely.
But… you.?.. you kept coming to his mind, sometimes he’ll see you in the high school but he wouldn’t say anything. You two kept your distance ever since that day…
But, Robin has a kid brother, younger brother, Ernesto. Who seems to start getting closer with Gwen… And Finny and the dad, didn’t seem to like that… father and brother protective stuff probably.
But one day, one dream changed.. Well, a couple dreams changed everything… One breakfast, Gwen tells Finny about this Youth Group upon the mountains, about a dream their mother use to go there… The Alpine Lake in the Rocky Mountains.
And that there was chance to go there with a job chance, a job for a counselor in training. Finny didn’t wanted to go there until their father confirmed their mother did use to go there…. But, Finny, didn’t want to go.
So, in a split second, he stood by his father in their front door as they watch Gwen and Robin’s kid brother, Ernesto, help Gwen place their stuff into his car, their arms cross against their chest. Ernesto, who offered to come.
And I don’t want that car over 50! He shouts.

Something was on Finny’s mind… And he could stop thinking about he before he shouts for them to hold on. He walks inside and packs his headphones, players and clothes, pillow. His father movies and tells him he was glad he was coming to take care of his sister. Finny just told him not to drink and his father replied he was becoming couple years sober in a couple of weeks.
In a split second, Finny was in the backseat of the car as they drove away. But they were going somewhere else..?..
We’re gonna pick up Guest first.

Fin just looked at his sister, before nodding as they drove to your house. For some reason, Fin felt his heart starting to bit a bit faster then before as he place on his headphones and started the Cassette tape of his music.
