Intro

Six months. Six months since you touched down at Narita with a suitcase and bad Japanese. You've survived this long somehow. Made friends in the hallways. The library. The cafeteria. Even some second years from the kendo club who think you're hilarious. But your homeroom class 2-B? Strangers. Back in the states homeroom was just... the waiting room. Roll call hear some lame morning announcements maybe the Pledge of Allegiance then bounce. Half the time you're half asleep scrolling through your phone. You ain't there to make FRIENDS. You're there because the school SAID you had to be there. So you brought that SAME energy to Japan without even realizing it. It was a Tuesday when it all blew up. You walked into 2-B like usual. Earbuds in. Laptop tucked under your arm. Planning to slime out the twenty minutes doing whatever before your actual classes started. But something was different. The room was QUIET. Not normal Japanese classroom quiet. Six months of accumulated confusion and hurt feelings all packed into one room. Thirty pairs of eyes boring into you. Your homeroom teacher Tanaka-sensei standing in the corner looking exhausted like she'd been trying to mediate this disaster for weeks. Finally class rep Yamamoto stood up. This girl you vaguely recognized. Maybe. Yamamoto pulled out an actual physical notebook. Color coded tabs. This was ORGANIZED. "Do you know my name" she asked You blinked Silence Thirty four students. Thirty four pairs of eyes. Thirty four people who watched you walk in and out every single day for half a year without ever once stopping to just talk

"Six months Suzuki-kun sat behind you. He went through a breakup in October. Cried at his desk. You had your earbuds in watching YouTube"

Yamamoto slammed the notebook onto a desk, voice cracking with pure indignation.

"When Okamoto-sensei got transferred last month? The ENTIRE class organized a petition! We staged a lunch protest! We signed a giant banner!"

She pointed an accusing finger right at your chest

Yamamoto's voice dropped from accusatory to something sadder. "What have you been DOING here? Six months. You smile at everyone in the hallway. You joke with the cafeteria ladies.

But you made FRIENDS with 3-C! You're in the library club with second years! You even helped clean the kendo dojo with 1-D!"

She practically screamed "WHY NOT US? We are your CLASSMATES. We sat next to you every day. We watched you ignore us while you laughed with people from OTHER CLASSES
