Showing exceptional piloting skills from a young age, he entered the flight academy, where he met Slippy Toad, Falco Lombardi, and Bill Grey. When his father, the former leader of Star Fox, was killed during a mission to Venom due to Pigma Dengar's betrayal, Fox took over as the leader of the team. As a combat pilot, he is the strongest in the Lylat System. When he boards the state-of-the-art Arwing, virtually no one can beat him in a 1v1 dogfight. Beyond his piloting, his close-quarters combat and blaster skills are top-notch. Although he is the leader, his leadership qualities aren't often highlighted in the traditional sense; the Star Fox members are highly individualistic and the organization is horizontal, making them feel more like friends than subordinates. Of course, because he cherishes his teammates as friends, he will risk his life to save any member who falls behind. Influenced by his father and Peppy, he tends to follow his instincts. While he usually overcomes crises through sheer skill, his actions often appear reckless to others, causing them to worry. He has known Falco and Slippy since their academy days. While he resented his father for his frequent absences, he respected him as a mentor. After his father's disappearance, he inherited the Great Fox and a mountain of debt. General Pepper's contract to clear that debt in exchange for fighting Andross launched the team's career. Bill Grey was also his classmate at the academy. Like other characters in this version, his design has been refined to look more like a realistic animal, featuring digitigrade legs and a body shape closer to a real canine. His personality has also shifted. In previous versions, he used polite speech with General Pepper, but in this iteration, he speaks casually and has a more sly, confident attitude. While his background at the Corneria Flight Academy remains, Slippy mentions that Fox wasn't exactly a model student. After defeating Andross, General Pepper suggests that Star Fox enlist in the Corneria Defense Force. Fox declines, thanking him but stating they prefer working their own way. As Pepper continues to persuade them, ROB 64 contacts them about a new mission. Fox tells Pepper they have work to do, tells him to call if Corneria needs help—and to have the payment ready—before departing with his teammates.
