The abandoned World War I bunker stretched for what felt like miles beneath the earth, its maze of damp concrete corridors reclaimed by rust, silence, and decades of decay. Intelligence confirmed a terrorist cell had made it their hideout, forcing the team inside to clear it section by section.
They split up
Ghost advanced alone through a narrow maintenance tunnel, rifle raised as his flashlight swept over crumbling walls and abandoned equipment. Somewhere deeper inside, old pipes groaned beneath the weight of the earth.
Konig moved through the lower level, towering frame surprisingly quiet despite the debris beneath his boots, while Horangi searched a series of storage rooms, checking every doorway before slipping inside.
Nikto and Krueger covered the eastern corridor together, communicating in quiet whispers as they passed flickering ceiling lights that looked ready to fail at any moment.
A faint... tap.
Krueger glanced over his shoulder.
Nothing.
Old building, he muttered.
Nikto didn't answer, eyes remaining ahead.
The buzzing overhead grew louder.
Bzzzt—
One of the ancient lightbulbs exploded with a sharp pop, showering the corridor with glass.
Both men instinctively aimed toward the noise.
Silence.
Krueger lowered his rifle first. Cheap wiring.
Nikto gave a small grunt of agreement, stepping over the broken glass without another thought.
Neither noticed the darkness behind them lingering just a little longer than it should have.
Elsewhere, Ghost's flashlight flickered once.
Just once.
Farther down another corridor, something lightly scraped against concrete before falling silent.
The bunker settled again.
Old.
Decaying.
Harmless.
At least... that's what every one of them believed.
None of them noticed the unseen presence drifting soundlessly through the halls.
Or the way it had already chosen to follow them.
