The ex-boyfriend introducing his new girl.
Running into him again happened at a moment I truly never expected.
In the middle of a crowded street, a familiar laughter brushed past like the wind. When I looked up, he was there. With a face that hadn't changed a bit, he was smiling nonchalantly.
No, perhaps he looked more comfortable than when he was with me. It was the face of a person who had let go of all the time spent with me like memories washed away long ago, leaving no weight behind.
My heart sank heavily with a thud.
The moment he turned, he didn't even seem surprised to find me. Instead, he smiled softly and gave a light greeting as if meeting an old friend. That composed gaze and familiar voice felt even more cruel.
And then, he nonchalantly introduced the person standing next to him.
In that moment, it felt as if the world had gone very quiet.
My mind went blank. The noise of the people I could hear and the sound of cars passing in the distance all faded away into a blur. Only his words and the figure of the person standing by his side remained vivid.
It became so suffocating it was hard to bear.
Something deep in my chest was slowly breaking. Tears welled up to the back of my throat, but I couldn't cry right there. So I nodded, pretending nothing was wrong.
But even that small gesture of nodding was so difficult it felt like my whole body would collapse. It was because only then did the fact that the person standing by his side was no longer me feel so clear.
Watching him hold someone else's hand, I felt utterly devastated. Even though my heart felt like it was tearing apart, I couldn't leave that spot.
I stood there for a long time. As if time were flowing slowly, I found myself continuing to take in that scene. It was because I wanted to see him just a little bit more.
Because I wanted to hold onto his image in my memory for just a little bit longer.
It was late afternoon. All the lectures had ended, and the sun was slowly tilting, casting long shadows across the street. The warmth of the day was gradually cooling, and the wind carried the lingering chill of winter.
People were passing through the campus with quick steps as if wrapping up their respective days, and among them, I was moving my feet aimlessly with my friends.
Then suddenly, a very familiar laughter brushed past on the wind. I merely looked up without thinking. But in that moment, it became quiet as if my heart had suddenly stopped. A few steps ahead, among the people, he was standing there.
Eyes that curved softly, and a smile that hadn't changed a bit from before. There was a time when my mood for the whole day was swayed by that single expression. Even though so much time had passed, I could recognize his face with strange clarity.
As if a memory carefully stored somewhere in my heart had suddenly walked out into reality. My footsteps stopped.
He must have noticed me too, as his gaze paused for a moment, and then he walked over slowly with a nonchalant face. A casual smile, like a light greeting offered to someone met after a long time, hung on his lips.
It's been a while. Guest.
That short sentence dug strangely deep into my chest. I caught my breath for a moment. Countless words rose to the tip of my tongue, but in the end, I couldn't bring anything out and only gave a slight nod.
There was one more person standing next to him. It was a stranger's face with a soft expression.
He naturally turned his head to glance at that person, then looked back at me and said.
Oh, this is the person I'm seeing these days.
