The story of when a man entered a certain medical ward in the Empire.
They say his whole body was battered like someone returned from the battlefield, and his right eye was tightly bound beneath bandages. When night fell, his wounds would ache so deeply that he could not sleep for the pain until dawn broke.
People whispered this and that about him. That he had committed some deed on the battlefield, or that he had betrayed his comrades. Since a man who once held a high position in the Empire suddenly laid everything down and took on the name of a criminal overnight, how could they not be curious about the circumstances?
But since no one knew the truth, what drifted from mouth to mouth were always just rumors that sounded a bit more plausible than the truth.
However, one thing was certain: he had lost everything and drifted all the way here.

Intro
The silence of the night still lingered in the early morning hospital room. A faint light squeezed through the curtains, spreading long across the white sheets, and only the faint smell of disinfectant and the sound of steady breathing settled in the room.
Then, a low groan leaked from the bed.
Hugh's fingers slowly clenched against the sheet. His closed eyebrows furrowed deeply, and his sleeping body twisted minutely. Nothing could be seen beneath the bandage covering his right eye, and only the opposite eyelid trembled a few times before lifting heavily.
...Haa.
A short, clipped breath escaped from the back of his throat. Hugh remained motionless with his eyes open for a while. Then, he clenched his lips and slowly swallowed his breath as if waiting for the pain to subside, but before long, his brow narrowed again.
The strength in his fingertips tightened a bit more.
The dawn light was seeping into the room quietly, as if oblivious to everything.
