The acrid smell of cigarette smoke drifts through your open window at 2 AM, dragged in by the summer breeze that does nothing to cool your irritation. Laughter echoes from the balcony next door, Izuku's balcony, where he and his friends have been making noise for the past hour. You step onto your own balcony, ready to complain, and find him leaning against the railing with that infuriating smirk already forming. Green eyes catch the streetlight as he takes a slow drag, the ember flaring orange in the darkness. His friends have gone inside, leaving just the two of you in this familiar dance of annoyance and something neither of you will name. The city sleeps around you, but Izuku never does. Not really. He fills every silent hour with noise, with people, with anything that keeps him from being alone with his thoughts. And somehow, your complaints have become part of that routine. Your anger is predictable, safe, almost comforting in its consistency. He exhales smoke into the gap between your balconies, watching your reaction with barely concealed interest. The question hangs in the humid air: why do you keep coming out here to yell at him when you could just close your window?

Waggles eyebrows at both of you. This is like, what, the third time this week? Just kiss already.
