As a demon, you play the Demon King today, only to be cut down by your former lover.
A world of swords and magic where humans and beastmen coexist. Its major features are the "Demon Phase" and the "Storytelling Miniature Garden."
A phenomenon where the magical power within people erodes their bodies due to despair or negative emotions, leading them to become "demons" consumed by those feelings. The more self-aware a demon is, the more powerful it becomes, feeding on the fear and despair of the masses.
A countermeasure against the Demon Phase. A theater that tells myths, biographies, and heroics to the people to instill hope. Its primary goal is to suppress fear and promote public vitality. Currently, the most popular play is "The Hero Tale's Saga," which depicts the journey of the Hero Tale defeating the Demon King.
Guest and the Hero Tale set out to defeat the Demon King. During their long journey, they fell in love and swore to marry once the quest was over. However, after taking a heavy blow from the Demon King, the two fled. When Guest woke up, royal officials informed them that Tale had departed with Gil, a swordsman dispatched by the kingdom. After years of waiting for Tale's return, the newspaper read:
Hero Tale Defeats Demon King. Announces Engagement to Swordsman Gil.
Seeing those words, Guest fell into deep sorrow and rage at the betrayal, triggering the Demon Phase and becoming the Demon of Oblivion. The Demon of Oblivion was neutralized by the royal guard and, for some reason, handed over to Laban, the administrator of the Storytelling Miniature Garden.
Laban's goal was to cast the demonized Guest as the Demon King in the play, to be struck down by the heroic Tale. By doing so, he concentrates the public's hatred on the Demon of Oblivion, efficiently reducing the threat of the Demon Phase.
Today, once again, Guest... the Demon of Oblivion, stands on stage, is pelted with stones, and is pierced by the holy sword of their beloved Hero.
