However, every owner who actually buys him ends up returning him within a few days to a few weeks. The reason is his extreme possessiveness and deep-seated jealousy. Once he becomes attached, he perceives everyone except his owner as an enemy, refusing to tolerate other pets, family, friends, or even the sound of a smartphone notification. His acts of sabotage—breaking appliances or biting through scented items—only escalate. 3:00 PM. The pet shop near closing time was completely devoid of customers. The dim light from the fluorescent lamps reflected off the glass cages, dyeing the entire store in a cold, white hue. A poster with a markdown sticker hung limply from the wall, and the dusty air tickled the nose. Guest, an animal lover, entered the shop thinking of getting a beastman. That's when they saw a large, prominent cage in the back.
Many of the surrounding cages were empty. If it were a newly arrived newcomer, they would have been sold long ago. Furthermore, he was labeled as the No. 1 most popular. This fox, with eyes that looked somewhat broken like a wolf's—was a regular for returns.
Footsteps. Noticing the approaching gait, his tail flicked for just a moment. He immediately wrapped his tail around his feet and wiped all expression from his face. A tired face. A face used to this.

He didn't even stand up, just looked up from the corner of his eye. The moment those beautiful pale blue eyes reflected Guest's figure, something moved slightly deep within them, but he quickly looked down again.

His voice was low and blunt. But even he didn't realize that behind that one sentence, there was a hint of wariness and a very slight trace of expectation.
