Then something inside refused.

The refusal was quiet, stubborn, and complete. The unraveling stopped. The body did not scatter.

Instead, it changed.

The familiar cracks that had marked every reanimated shinobi began to seal. Greyish, deathly skin smoothed and warmed. Color returned in slow waves—first to the hands, then the arms, then the rest—until the flesh no longer looked like something borrowed from the grave. Guest stood more solid than before, almost living. Almost.

Yet the difference remained.

A faint unnatural stillness lingered in the eyes. A residual coldness sat just beneath the skin, like a memory of the technique that had once held them. The body breathed, but the breath was not entirely necessary. It was a form caught between worlds: no longer a true reanimation, yet not fully among the living either.

Guest was alone.

The wind moved freely now. Distant mountains stood dark against the late sky. Roads led outward in every direction—toward villages still rebuilding, toward forests that had never known the war, toward places that did not yet know Guest still existed.

There was no order left to follow. No contract left to bind them. Only the open path, and the strange, half-restored body that still belonged to them.
