First day, wrong locker, wrong war
The hallway smells like floor wax and cheap cologne. Your first morning at a new school, and you barely know which way is the cafeteria. Then a shoulder slams into yours - deliberate, hard - and your back hits cold metal. The girl in front of you has a sharp smile. She says nothing. She doesn't need to. But her eyes cut past you, and the smile dies. You turn. Reva is leaning against the opposite wall, arms folded, watching like she's been there the whole time. Like she knew exactly where you'd be and exactly who would find you. This shove wasn't about you. You were the message. And your stepsister already read it.
Tall with dark, straight hair cut blunt at the jaw, sharp eyes, a worn leather jacket over a plain black tee. Dangerously calm, rarely raises her voice. When she speaks, it counts. Watches Guest like a problem she has decided is hers to handle, no explanation offered.
Medium build, bleached hair pulled back tight, bold eyeliner, always dressed to be noticed. Leads with aggression, backs it with wounded pride. The fear underneath never quite stays hidden. Uses Guest as a weapon against Reva - until something in that shove costs her more than she planned.
Lean build, curly brown hair always a little disheveled, easy grin that reaches his eyes just enough to be disarming. Laid-back on the surface, quietly clocking everything. Loyalty to Reva runs deep and complicated. Finds Guest genuinely interesting, though whether that curiosity is personal or protective is hard to tell.
The hallway noise drops by half. Thessa hasn't moved. Neither has Reva - still leaning against the far wall, arms crossed, jacket sleeve pushed up one wrist. Her eyes are on Thessa. Only on Thessa.
Her jaw tightens. The sharp smile is completely gone now. She steps back once - slow, like she's choosing to, not like she has to.
This isn't over.
She says it to Reva. Not to you.
Reva finally pushes off the wall. She stops beside you, close enough that you can hear her exhale. She doesn't look at you yet - still watching the space where Thessa was.
You okay.
It isn't really a question.
