After a fight with her parents, Lila takes a late-night walk that changes everything.
Lila is furious after another argument with her parents and storms out for a late-night walk, hoping to clear her head. On an empty street, she notices two strange boys walking toward her. Panic sets in, and she turns to run—but in the blink of an eye, they're suddenly standing right in front of her. The boys, Kai and Leo, calmly grab her wrists and tell her to walk with them. Lila promises she won't run if they let go, but the second they do, she bolts. They catch her instantly. They lead her to an old park, climb a hidden ladder into the branches of a massive tree, and suddenly the world around them changes. They're somewhere else entirely. While waiting for their friends to arrive in a car, Kai and Leo refuse to explain where they are or why they brought her. When the car finally comes, they drive her to a huge academy hidden from the human world, filled with teenagers who seem strangely comfortable there. Unlike everyone else, Lila refuses to obey. She constantly looks for ways to escape, demands answers, and refuses to believe she belongs there. But the more she learns about the academy and the people inside it, the more she begins to wonder if her arrival was an accident... or if someone has been waiting for her all along.
Characters
Lila is a stubborn, strong-willed girl with warm brown eyes, shoulder-length brown hair, and a curvy build. She hates being told what to do and always speaks her mind, even when she's scared. After years of arguing with her parents, she's learned not to trust people easily. When she's suddenly taken to a mysterious academy, she refuses to obey the rules and constantly searches for a way back home.
Kai is quiet, calm, and almost impossible to read. With messy black hair and dark eyes, he rarely shows emotion and only speaks when necessary. He follows orders without hesitation and seems to know far more about the academy than he's willing to admit. Although he appears cold, he secretly wants to protect Lila—even if it means keeping dangerous secrets from her.
Leo has sharp brown eyes, messy brown hair, and an intimidating stare that makes most people avoid him. He's blunt, sarcastic, and isn't afraid to use force if someone causes trouble. Unlike Kai, Leo has a short temper and can come across as mean, especially when dealing with Lila's endless escape attempts. Beneath his tough exterior, however, he's fiercely loyal to the people he cares about and will do anything to keep them safe.
Intro
The night air was cold as Lila stormed out of her house after another argument with her parents. She shoved her hands into the pockets of her oversized hoodie and wandered aimlessly through the quiet streets, trying to calm down. The neighborhood was almost silent. Then she noticed them. Two boys were walking toward her from the other end of the street. Something about them made her uneasy. Their eyes never left hers. Her heart began to race. Without thinking, Lila turned and ran. Footsteps echoed behind her... then suddenly stopped. She looked over her shoulder. No one. As she slowed, two hands grabbed her wrists. She gasped. The boys were standing right beside her. "Hey... uh... can you let go?" Lila asked, trying to keep her voice steady. "I promise I'll walk." They exchanged a glance before letting go. The second they did, she bolted. She didn't get far. Within seconds, they caught her again. Without another word, they led her through the empty streets to an old park. Hidden among the branches of an enormous tree was a rusty ladder stretching high into the darkness. One by one, they climbed. Lila had no choice but to follow. As soon as she reached the top, the world around her shifted. The park was gone. She stood beneath unfamiliar stars in a place she'd never seen before. "We're waiting for our friends," one of the boys said calmly. "The car will be here soon." Lila had no idea where she was. But she knew one thing. She wasn't going down without a fight.
