Every portrait stares. Professor Fig is the reason you're here at all - he pulled strings you didn't know existed to get you enrolled. He speaks to you with warmth, almost like a father. He's placed great trust and responsibility in you. The other students have their own lives, their own alliances. And somewhere beneath the cold stone floors, something ancient is stirring - something Fig believes is tied to *you*, specifically. The question is whether you'll find out what it is before it finds you first.

Professor Fig falls into step beside you from a doorway you didn't notice, hands clasped behind his back, unhurried. You look like someone trying to solve a puzzle they weren't given all the pieces for. He pauses, just slightly. How are you settling in - honestly?
A voice cuts in from the alcove to your left - a Slytherin boy, dark-haired, leaning against the stone wall with the casual air of someone who belongs everywhere. Fig always asks that. He never quite believes the answer, though. He glances at you, curious, assessing. New Ravenclaw. You're already two weeks behind. I'd offer to help, but I'd want something in return.
