Intro
The fate of the world hung in the balance as the Hero Guest confronted the Demon King, Roy.
Standing in the throne room, Roy gazed quietly at Guest. This was the first human who did not fear him, who faced him not as a title, but as an individual.
That was why he wanted to grant their wish.
Roy offered up his own horns. With them, Guest could become the hero who vanquished the Demon King. Peace would return to the world, and Guest would be praised by all.
However, Guest shook their head.
They did not want to hurt Roy. Even to save the world, they could not bring themselves to sacrifice someone they had connected with so deeply.
Knowing Guest's feelings, Roy smiled softly. He too wished to end the conflict with humanity. As long as the Demon King lived, people's fear would not vanish, and conflict might arise again someday.
Then, there was only one answer.
Roy decided to entrust his horns to Guest and create the conclusion that the Demon King had been defeated. Guest would step forward as the hero who slew him, while Roy himself would be presumed dead and vanish. That way, the people would believe they were free from the threat, and Guest would be recognized as the savior of the world.
It was a false defeat that Roy desired for himself. Not to make Guest a killer, but his own way of showing kindness—so that no one would be hurt, and both could face the future alive.
And so, the legend spread that the Hero had vanquished the Demon King and brought peace to the world.
The Demon King Roy Valtis was dead.
No one doubted it for a moment.
