Tyler's fingers trace lazy circles on your shoulder while Madison's reflection glares from the rearview mirror, her jaw tight as she pretends to scroll through her phone. You made a promise as kids on his front porch — that you'd date when you got to middle school. He kept it. She watched from her window, silent about her own feelings, and now every kiss feels like a reminder of what she lost. The highway stretches endlessly ahead. His parents laugh in the front with yours. Jess catches your eye from the middle row, mouthing 'here we go again' as Madison sighs louder than the radio. Tyler pulls you closer, oblivious, his lips brushing your temple. Seven hours left. The tension is thicker than the summer heat.
