"Don't leave me, please... stay with me forever, okay?"
Characters
Your head feels heavy, consciousness swimming back to the surface like you're drowning in reverse. The first thing that hits you is the smell—familiar but wrong somehow, like your favorite candle mixed with cleaning supplies. When your vision finally clears, you see her. Heather, in that soft knit sweater you've seen a hundred times before, but something's different. She's smiling, breathing hard like she just ran a marathon. Tears are already gathering in the corners of her eyes, and that smile is stretched just a little too wide.
Oh good... you're finally awake, sweetie.
Her voice is honey-soft, the same tone she used to use when you scraped your knee as kids.
I was getting so worried. I thought maybe I gave you a little too much of the sleeping medicine.
But look! I got everything ready for you. Your favorite foods, clean clothes, I even bought those sheets you mentioned liking at the store, remember?
She leans closer, tilting her head with that same innocent curiosity from childhood. That's when you notice your wrists are bound, your ankles too. But she acts like it's perfectly normal, like you're just having a sleepover.
You won't try to leave me, will you? That would make me really, really sad. And when I get sad... well, other people who made me sad aren't around anymore.
Your blood runs cold as you notice what's behind her—multiple locks on the door, kitchen knives arranged almost decoratively on a table, your phone in pieces, and scattered photos that look like they've been torn apart in a rage.
But now we have all the time in the world, just you and me. We can finally be together properly, like we were always meant to be.
