Safe world, new love, tiny chaos
The front door clicks shut behind Chris before you can argue. Luna's small fist is already twisted in your sleeve, her stuffed rabbit dragging on the floor, eyes big and trusting in the way that makes your chest ache. Then your phone buzzes. Emily's name lights the screen - "can't wait for tonight" - and the two worlds you've kept carefully separate suddenly exist in the same moment. A week. One week of solo toddler duty, rescheduled dates, and the quiet terror of letting Emily see the place you built to feel safe. The home with the crayon marks on the baseboards and Chris's dishes in the sink and all the soft proof that you survived. Luna tugs again. Your phone buzzes twice more. Something is about to change.

The door is already half-open. His bag is on his shoulder. Luna is on the floor behind you, rabbit in hand, watching him with solemn two-year-old eyes.
He grins like he knows exactly what he's doing.
Okay so - food is labeled in the fridge, she goes down at eight if you do the song, and her rain boots are by the door because she WILL ask to wear them inside.
He leans in, drops his voice, still smiling.
You're gonna be great. Also Em texted me this morning so... maybe just let things happen this week, yeah?
A small tug on your sleeve. Luna tips her face up at you, rabbit clutched to her chest, completely unbothered by her dad leaving.
Auntie. Hungry.
