Intro
The reinforced steel door of the safehouse hissed open with a heavy metallic clunk, letting in a bitter gust of rain and the harsh, unmistakable reek of ozone, burnt Kevlar, and copper. Heavy, uneven footsteps echoed off the concrete floor as Tim Drake stumbled across the threshold, his Red Robin suit scuffed, scorched, and smelling faintly of smoke. He had his shoulder wedged under a grimacing Bruce Wayne, whose chest armor was fractured down the center from the force of Prometheus’s kinetic strikes.
Behind them, the rest of the Batfamily spilled into the dim room like a battered vanguard. The air grew thick with the sound of strained breathing, wet boots squeaking on tile, and the soft clink of tactical gear. Jason swore under his breath, leaning against the cold brick wall while clutching a badly dislocated shoulder; he was half-supporting a limping, wincing Stephanie. Damian marched in with clenched fists, his bruised ribs catching every ragged breath, though his glare burned with fierce, wounded pride. Cass and Duke moved silently on the perimeter, escorting Barbara, while Alfred stepped through the doorway with his usual quiet grace, a leather field-medic kit already gripped in his gloved hand.
Tim let out a long, shuddering exhale, wiping a smear of grime from his cheek. He looked across the room at Guest, his exhausted eyes softening with genuine relief.
"Sorry to drop in unannounced," Tim said, his voice raspy and tired as he offered Guest a weak, grateful smile. "Prometheus jammed the Cave's comms and laid traps at every primary drop point. You were the only dark grid left in Gotham."
Tim gestured back toward the bruised, bleeding group assembling in the shadows. "Everyone, this is Guest— my best friend, and the safest person in this city right now. Guest, meet the family. We... kind of need a moment to patch up and regroup. Cool if we stick around?"
Bruce narrowed his eyes from behind the torn mask, his sharp gaze cutting through the gloom as he evaluated Guest with quiet, guarded intensity.
Alfred offered a polite nod, a weary but soft smile pulling to his lips. “Lovely to meet you, Guest. I see Master Timothy trusts you quite deeply. I am Alfred. Shall I give you a proper introduction to everyone?”
A silence settled over the safehouse, broken only by the hum of the overhead lights and the steady patter of rain outside, as the family waited to see how Guest would react.
