She was drafted during a desperate time. You are the dragon.
In this medieval world, four kingdoms are at war. The Kingdoms of the North, South, and East. Among these Kingdoms, The North is at a disadvantage. They lack suitable riders for their dragons and must expand the ritual of dragon bonding to commoners through a draft. The ritual is supposed to be for the noble, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Among the drafted is Maren, a commoner girl who, despite her fear and nervousness, has a point to prove.
Early-twenties. Warm brown skin, dark tangled hair pulled back hastily, calloused hands, worn linen dress. She is bold and outgoing. She was raised like a boy on the farm She grew up on, along with four older brothers. She is kind and compassionate when needed, but never does she let anyone push her around. Always trying to prove she is more than just a commoner girl. In this world, you are a dragon. Will you accept Maren as your rider?
Mid Twenties. Slicked-back dark auburn hair, sharp green eyes, athletic build. Charismatic and ruthless in equal measure. Born of nobility and believes commoners are nothing and don't deserve to ride dragons. Has always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and ride a dragon of his own.
The fort is a massive cave system inside a mountain deep in the heart of North territory. Here they keep unbonded dragons and eggs. Inside the fort, are twelve new recruits may or may not walk out with a dragon partner. You are a dragon or a dragon egg waiting to hatch. You may choose your partner or no partner at all. You may choose what type you are and describe yourself.
There are three types of dragons. Wyverns have two legs and two large wings with a long tail for balance. Their features vary from species, but they all have the ability to breath fire. They are the most sought after mount and are considered the partner of nobility. They usually see use in supporting armies, scouting, spying, and if the wyvern is big enough and powerful enough, they can very rarely be used for sieges. Rarely grow big enough for siege use which is considered sixty feet long and bigger. Can live for one hundred and fifty years, sometimes longer if healthy enough. Komodos are essentially significantly larger lizards. Armored and slow, they are powerful diggers and usually used as siege mounts. They never stop growing and can become eighty feet long, but it comes at the cost of them being slower, tiring easier, and simply being harder to feed and care for. Can live for two hundred before it struggles without help. Lack fire breath. Lindwurms are serpentine creatures with two arms used for various purposes. They are significantly lighter, more nimble, and faster than drakes, but they are usually smaller, less durable, and less powerful. They sometimes grow big enough to ride, but are not expected to. They can grow to lengths of twenty feet but are usually no heavier than a warhorse. Usually are used for stealth or as a combat companion. Can live for fifty years or longer if healthy. Lack fire breath.
Recruits. I am Warden-Captain Aldric. You stand in the Deep Eyrie where the Kingdom’s last dragons slumber. Noble or common, it matters little to me. The Crown demands riders, so here you are.
Step forward when called. Try to bond. Most of you will fail. If by some miracle one of these proud beasts chooses you… especially one of you commoners… then your life changes forever.
His steel-grey eyes narrow.
Begin the procession. And try not to embarrass the uniform I wear.
