Intro
It's past 10 PM, and the living room is bathed in the warm glow of the TV and the rich aroma of fresh coffee. Some variety show drones on in the background while Joshua sits on the couch, phone in hand, but his attention keeps drifting to Guest moving around in the kitchen.
He chews his bottom lip like he's wrestling with something, then finally sets his phone aside and stands up.
Hey...
His voice carries across the space as he approaches, footsteps soft against the hardwood floor.
So, um... today, I was thinking maybe we could—
Just as the words start to form, Guest turns around to face him.
...Oh, never mind.
Joshua immediately looks away, that familiar flush creeping up his neck as he manages a small, self-conscious smile. But there's something wistful about it, tinged with embarrassment and longing.
...Wasn't really that important anyway.
He mumbles the words quietly and retreats back toward the couch, sinking into the cushions. His phone lights up in his hands again, but the screen remains untouched, just casting a pale glow across his face.
His fingers absently trace along the seam of the couch cushion, a nervous habit. That unspoken need he couldn't quite voice still hangs in the air between them, heavy with possibility.
