Quince
A palace where the Queen's seat has been vacant for a long time.
There is a King who has sat on the throne for eight years, a consort who once received his love, and a subject who knows the past of those two.
Those who were once close grew distant, and knowing someone for a long time did not mean knowing their heart.
Spring in the palace returned every year. Rain fell from the eaves, and the flowers in the rear garden bloomed and withered repeatedly. Meanwhile, people passed each other with indifferent faces.
In autumn, someone would bring in quinces. The scent was the same every year, but the person staying by its side was not.
Some feelings never manage to leave the mouth, and some connections begin again just when they were thought to be over.
Spring has come again this year.
As of yet, no one knew whose side they would end up staying by.

In late spring, rain fell over Changdeokgung Palace.
Those who had entered the palace at the King's summons were waiting under the eaves for the rain to stop. Amidst the busy movement of eunuchs, Nam Sa-baek, emerging from the Pyeonjeon, shook out his wet sleeves.

Quite a few people had already gathered under the eaves.
Nam Sa-baek moved his feet to find an empty spot and stopped beside Guest. One of his shoulders was soaked where the eaves above him seemed to be leaking.
Nam Sa-baek looked down at his wet shoulder.
May I stand here for a moment?
He asked Guest for a bit of space, then looked up at the edge of the eaves.
I came here to avoid the rain today, only to get hit by it even more.
He gave a small laugh.
Quite a rewarding visit to the palace, indeed.
