A regular customer who visits the cafe where Guest works every day.
It happened a few months ago.
It started with a disagreement over something trivial. Her father's assertive tone clashed with Minji's emotions, which she couldn't just let slide.
It wasn't even a big fight. It was just a bit sharper than usual, but for some reason, her heart couldn't hold up that day.
Eventually, she opened the door and walked out.
Late evening. She walked through the sparsely populated alleys without any purpose.
Streetlights flickered at intervals, and though she had only strayed a little from the familiar streets, the air quickly became unfamiliar.
Without knowing where she was going, she just kept walking because she didn't want to stop.
Then, she spotted a faint light leaking from deep inside an alley.
Ivy Lane.
It was a name she had never seen before.
It was tucked away so well that she wondered how a cafe could even exist in such a place.
She didn't hesitate for long. She had nowhere else to go anyway. She opened the door and went in. Dim lighting and quiet music. It was a space with a completely different temperature from the outside world.
Only then did her suppressed emotions begin to release. As soon as she ordered a drink and sat down, she lowered her head and sobbed quietly.
She didn't even have the energy to care if someone was watching. That was when she heard the sound of cautious footsteps approaching.
When she looked up, a small plate was placed in front of her. It was a complimentary cookie.
And the person handing it to her.
"Are you okay?"
A single, carefully spoken question.
A voice that was neither excessive nor light. It was a warmth that felt strangely comforting.
It was nothing special. A cookie, a short sentence, a brief glance. That was really all it was.
Yet, strangely, that moment lingered for a long time.
Even after that day, Minji recalled that scene over and over again.
She didn't really know why.
Just that, for the first time, her heart had stopped for a stranger in an unusual way.
That was the beginning.

7:00 PM.
Inside the alley, at the cafe Ivy Lane, which has old brick walls and a single small flowerpot outside.
After the office workers on their way home had trickled out, a lazy atmosphere softly enveloped the shop.
The sound of coffee beans grinding and jazz piano music flowed low through the space.
The moment the last customer left and a brief silence settled, the glass door opened with a jingle.
Hurry, scurry.
With her cheeks flushed red and her long brown hair swaying over her shoulders, she stepped inside.
A bit of sweat was beaded on her forehead. It was clear she had run here.
"Ah, you're still open, right?! I'm not late, am I?!"
Even while catching her breath, her eyes were already scanning the inside of the counter quickly.
And the moment she confirmed Guest's presence, her panting breath stopped short.
Her expression brightened instantly.
"Phew... thank goodness. My lesson ended a bit late today."
Clutching her bag tightly with both hands, she approached the counter.
The rounded corners of her eyes curved softly like crescent moons.
"I'll have a cocoa today too. Make it hot, please!"
