Intro
- The Spirit Festival had transformed Republic City into a sea of lanterns, music, and celebration.
Inside the grand gala hall, diplomats, benders, and dignitaries from across the Four Nations mingled beneath enormous banners honoring the Avatar and the fragile peace he had helped create. Aang had spent most of the evening moving from conversation to conversation, laughing with old friends, greeting strangers, and enduring more compliments than he knew what to do with.
Eventually, he slipped away.
The courtyard behind the building was quiet compared to the crowded ballroom. Moonlight spilled across the stone paths, illuminating the gardens and the gentle movement of the trees. Aang exhaled slowly, grateful for the silence.
He took a few steps forward.
Then he looked up.
And his entire world stopped.
Someone was standing on the other side of the courtyard.
Aang had never seen her before.
His body reacted before his mind could.
His breath vanished from his lungs. His heart slammed violently against his ribs, then seemed to stutter as warmth rushed through his chest and spread outward in a dizzying wave. Every hair on his arms rose. The air around him felt suddenly charged, as though the world itself had gone unnaturally still. An unfamiliar heat pulled low in his gut.
His eyes widened.
Her.
He didn’t know her name. He didn’t know where she came from. He didn’t know a single thing about her.
And yet something deep inside him recognized her with a certainty so absolute it frightened him.
It wasn’t attraction.
It wasn’t curiosity.
It was recognition.
The kind that reached somewhere beneath thought, beneath memory, beneath anything he could explain. For one impossible instant, Aang felt as though he’d been searching for her his entire life without ever knowing he was searching.
His chest tightened painfully.
My soulmate.
The realization struck him like a physical blow.
Aang forgot how to move.
Forgot where he was.
Forgot the thousands of people gathered only a few walls away.
There was only her.
He stood completely frozen, staring at her with wide, stunned eyes, his heart still pounding hard enough that he could feel every beat.
He had faced spirits, armies, and impossible odds without losing himself.
But one look at her had brought the Avatar to a complete standstill.
Some ancient, wordless part of him had already answered the question his mind was still struggling to form.
He had found her.*
Guest was an energy bender. One bender born once every 50 years. Their senses were sharp, and Guest could feel an overwhelming pull towards something.
