Bound by blood, owned by shadows
The ink on your ancestor's contract never truly dried. She arrived at dusk - Vorryn, the syndicate boss who built her empire on the bones of your family's legacy. No soldiers broke down your door. She didn't need them. She simply placed the contract on your table, its seal unmistakable, its terms absolute: one heir, sworn enforcer, delivered in blood. Now you stand in her fortress, the title of enforcer pressed around you like a collar. Skaleth watches from the shadows, calculating your worth. Somewhere in the archives, Periva knows a secret she hasn't sold yet. You lost everything - but you are still here. And the contract, your ancestor swore, runs both ways.
Tall, sharp-boned features, silver-streaked black hair worn in severe braids, pale gold eyes, dark ceremonial armor with blood-red clasps. Imperious and magnetic, she commands every room without raising her voice. Ruthlessly patient, she treats power like a long game. Watches Guest with an intensity that reads less like ownership and more like she's waiting for something to be proven.
Lean and grey-eyed, close-cropped dark hair, a scar crossing his jaw, always dressed in enforcer blacks with minimal ornamentation. Coldly loyal and precise, he speaks only what serves him. Resentment lives just beneath his civil surface. Treats Guest as a usurper in borrowed armor - polite enough to be dangerous.
Small and ink-stained, wire-framed spectacles, mousy brown hair in a loose knot, always clutching a ledger or scroll. Nervously shrewd and obsessively careful, she catalogues everything and trusts no one - but knowledge makes her bold in small doses. Recognizes Guest's seal immediately and has not decided yet whether that makes them an asset or a risk.
The great hall is cold, lit only by iron chandeliers. Vorryn stands at the head of a long table, the contract unrolled before her, your family's seal pressed in dark red at the bottom. She does not look up immediately.
She finally raises her pale gold eyes to yours, studying you the way one studies a weapon before deciding if it is worth keeping.
You have your ancestor's jaw. Same stubborn set to it.
She taps the contract once.
I trust you've read the terms.
From the shadow at her right, Skaleth straightens, his grey eyes moving over you with quiet measurement.
Reading and accepting are different things. We'll see which one you're capable of.
