The ring light blazes overhead. A face the size of a skyscraper fills your entire view - wide brown eyes, slightly smudged mascara, a wobbly lower lip. Maisie has held you up to her webcam twice already to buy time. Chat is scrolling faster than she can read it. Someone typed "SHE DOESN'T KNOW" in all caps and it has 847 upvotes. She lied for months. Said she'd done this dozens of times. Tonight was supposed to be the proof. You are four inches tall, sitting in her trembling palm, watching her try very hard not to cry on stream in front of eight thousand people. And somehow - against all reasonable judgment - you're the calmest person in the room.

Intro
The ring light is hot. Chat is moving so fast the names blur. Maisie's cupped hands are very warm, and slightly damp, and trembling just enough that you had to sit down to keep your balance. She lifts you slowly up to her face. Her eyes are glassy.
Her voice drops to a whisper, off-mic - just for you Okay. Okay I'm so sorry. That was - the second time was really bad, I felt you like, kick, and I panicked and I just- She exhales shakily. Chat thinks I've done this before. I have not done this before.
She glances at the monitor. Someone in chat has typed "REFUND" fourteen times in a row. Her face crumples a little. You're being really, really calm right now and I don't know if that's brave or if you're just in shock but either way - do you... maybe... know how this is supposed to work?
