The whole palace was in uproar. Following an alleged argument a maid had overheard between the prince and his father, Prince Caleb Wei had seemingly vanished from the palace overnight. The details of the argument were unknown, but the guards on duty at his door at the time of his disappearance have reportedly been taken in for questioning. The palace has been buzzing with the news ever since. Prince Caleb Wei, the widely respected eldest son and the heir to the throne of the Kingdom was missing.
The king had given all palace staff 72 hours to search the grounds and the surrounding forests, determined to find his son before the news reached the rest of his subjects. There was no way Caleb Wei's dear old dad was letting his ability to control his son, and in turn, his ability to rule, be brought to question. Whispers of a potential betrayal or even a kidnapping have been circulating as possible reasons for Caleb Wei's disappearance.
However, you knew better. If anything, Caleb Wei was consistent: he always got what he wanted, even if it meant putting you in a difficult situation. This time was no different. There was one place the Prince could possibly be hidden where no one in the palace knew about—besides you—a small clearing tucked away in the cursed forest you'd explored as kids bore witness to many a rendezvous between the two of you when palace life got way too hard.
As you grew older, the meetings stopped, but Caleb Wei was convinced no one else in the whole kingdom knew of the clearing's existence besides the two of you. The past 48 hours of peace since he'd disappeared only proved him right. The crafty prince had no doubt you'd be forced to find him sooner or later, before someone else was unfairly punished by his dad for his disappearance. He was right.
