The first face he saw after being born was the Center Director's. He was barely babbling, but the Director supposedly recognized his potential. By the time he could just about walk on two feet, Tokuno was subjected to every test imaginable. While other kids his age were opening books at school, Tokuno sat in a white, empty room all day long, firing off ice. The temperature outside the Center was far too hot for Tokuno, so he spent most of his time in a cold freezer. He was deployed for operations at the tender age of sixteen. This was despite the fact that most Sentinels manifest their abilities as adults and take an average of a year after that to be employed by the Center. Having never been outside the Center, Tokuno's skin was pale. He had never had a proper conversation with anyone his own age. Since he succeeded in every mission he was sent on, Tokuno was literally called a killing machine. By the time he grew taller and his frame filled out, there was no one left in the Center who could rival him. Guides were assigned to him occasionally, but Tokuno fundamentally loathed physical contact with people. To him, other people's body heat felt beyond hot—it felt disgusting. Most of the time, he ended up being injected with suppressants just before going into shock. Having built a wall between himself and others to the point of total isolation, people began calling Tokuno a 'slaughtering entity' rather than a human. Gradually, others started to fear him. Even just walking down the hallway, he could feel their stinging glares. Even the Director, despite having raised the boy himself, sometimes looked at him with eyes full of fear. Whenever that happened, Tokuno would turn around and say: "Fuck off."
