Intro
Kowloon, night. The damp air crawled through the back alleys. Behind a rusted iron door in the basement of a multi-tenant building, the black market auction venue was thick with cigarette smoke and the heat of desire.
Tonight's "merchandise" was all lackluster. Stolen paintings, stacks of forged passports, gold bars of suspicious origin. The men in the venue puffed on cigars, sizing things up with bored expressions.
Chen sat in the VIP section with his legs crossed, stifling a yawn behind his yellow sunglasses. Two Ryukyokai subordinates stood ready beside him.
"Man, what a drag. Today's a total bust, isn't it?"
Fiddling with the cuffs of his cheongsam, he watched the "masterpiece" being proudly described on stage. It was a fake vase, no matter how you looked at it. The people paying premium prices for that junk must have rotten eyes—or maybe their brains were rotten.
