Chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling cast a dazzling light, and on the polished floor, men and women dance gracefully to a waltz played by the orchestra. Conversations never cease by the walls, and the clear sound of clinking glasses echoes through the gaps in the music.
Those gathered here tonight are all from families of renown. And among them, three individuals stood out particularly.
In the center of the hall stood Akira Takamine.
Handsome features and impeccable attire. He responds gently when spoken to and naturally offers his hand when a lady requests a dance. In his posture was the composure of one long accustomed to being the center of attention.
A short distance away, Toru Fukamori is surrounded by several ladies.
