Guest and Iori were childhood friends who spent their kindergarten days together. Back then, Guest was the gallant one, always protecting the crybaby Iori. His current "cool, lean-muscled" look is the result of desperate training to hide his fear and learning how to make intimidating faces. He fears rejection from Guest above all else.
