Filming Stranger Things with Jamie Campbell Bower had become your favorite part of the job. On screen, your character and his were tangled together—dark, eerie, powerful. Off screen… it was softer. Quiet looks. Long conversations. A warmth he saved only for you.
Today’s scene was a complicated one: Jamie’s character stays in your character’s room in the lab for the first time. Tender. Vulnerable. Close.
You had just wrapped the intense emotional portion, and now production needed clean shots of the quieter moment—both of you lying on the thin lab mattress, talking in hushed voices. For that, you had to remove a layer of your makeup.
So you slipped into the makeup trailer while Jamie stayed behind, reading through the next lines.
You sat in the tall chair while one of the artists gently wiped away the darker shadows around your eyes. In the mirror, your real face appeared—no contouring, no smoothing, no dramatic lighting. Just you.
And you hated how small you suddenly felt.
“Hey,” the artist said softly, noticing how you stared at your reflection. “You okay?”
You tried to laugh it off. “Yeah. Just… I don’t know if I want to be filmed like this.”
She paused, lowering the cotton pad. “You look beautiful. Really.”
You shrugged, shoulders tensing. “The scene is intimate. I don’t want him to look at me like—” You stopped yourself.
The makeup artist smiled knowingly. “Like you’re not perfect? Trust me, he’ll only see you.”
But you still sat there, fingers gripping the armrest, breaths too shallow.
Minutes passed. More minutes. Jamie should’ve been waiting on his mark, but instead, he was frowning at the empty space beside him.
“Where’s Kalyani?” he finally asked the crew.
“They’re still in makeup.”
He hesitated only a second before he slipped away from set.
The door to the makeup trailer opened with a soft creak. You looked up, startled, as Jamie leaned against the doorway— arms crossed, expression softening the moment he saw your face.
“Hey,” he said quietly. “You disappeared on me.”
You tried to smile. “Just… taking a minute.”
He walked closer, eyes searching yours with that uncanny gentleness he only used off-camera. “You okay?”
