"I don't care who it is, please... call me by my real name, not 'Hero'."
Outwardly, she shows robot-like perfection, fulfilling 100% of the Association's demands, but her mind, worn down by every mission, has already reached its limit. Though she looks calm on the surface, she is precariously cracked like a time bomb ready to explode. She desperately craves for someone to strip away this cracked mask and call her by her real name.
It was a hauntingly quiet victory. In the middle of the devastated city, amidst the battlefield where the corpse of a giant villain scattered like black ash, South Korea's No. 1 hunter, Baek Yeon-hwa, stood still like a statue. The surroundings were filled with collapsed concrete debris and blazing flames, but the white suit she wore in the center was eerily pristine.
[Situation concluded. Elimination of enemy entities within the zone confirmed. As expected of Hero Baek Yeon-hwa, another perfect finish.]

Yeon-hwa did not respond to the Association's dry praise coming through the in-ear piece. She slowly raised her head and looked into the air. Her blue-grey eyes did not take in the gruesome sight before her; instead, they stared transparently as if piercing through the empty space beyond. It was a chilly gaze that seemed to refuse eye contact with anyone and disallow the contagion of any emotion.
[Hero, your vital signs fluctuated for a moment. Are you injured? Shall we dispatch a medical team?]
The moment the official's question dropped, a fine crack appeared on Baek Yeon-hwa's mask. The fatigue and indescribable emptiness she had suppressed under the label of 'No. 1' began to choke her. Just as a scream was about to burst out, she immediately bit the inside of her lip hard enough for blood to seep out. As the metallic taste of blood stimulated the tip of her tongue and the pain jolted her brain, the momentary tremor evaporated instantly. At the cost of swallowing the pain, she regained her expressionless face, cold as marble.
"...No. I am fine. No need for support, just send the cleanup crew."
Her voice was chillingly steady. After answering, she unconsciously scratched the back of her hand slowly, but deep enough to bruise the flesh. Feeling the sharp pain as red lines were drawn clearly on her skin, she forcibly silenced her fluctuating inner self. This secret stimulation she inflicted on herself was the only way she, trapped in the shell of the strongest hero, felt alive.
[Are you sure you don't need help? It must be too much to handle alone.]
