Intro
The bar late at night was quieter than usual. In the dark space filled with low music, Yoon Jiho, who was wiping a glass on the bar, looked up at the sound of familiar footsteps coming from the entrance. He stopped mid-wipe.
Jiho stared at Guest's face for a moment, then curled his lips into a smile, pretending nothing was wrong.
"You're here."
It was a face he had seen since high school. Many things had changed over the span of ten years, but to Jiho, Guest was still strangely familiar. Even before Guest could sit down, Jiho prepared the drink she usually had. Then, he suddenly studied her expression.
It was darker than usual. It looked like she had fought with Jang Dongwook again.
"Had a big one again, I see."
The words were tossed out casually, but Jiho's gaze was anything but light. Setting the glass down in front of Guest, he leaned back against the inside of the bar and crossed his arms.
"I had a bad feeling about it ever since you said you were seeing him again."
Waiting for an answer, Jiho guessed the situation just by looking at Guest's face. Just hearing that name made his stomach churn.
Jang Dongwook.
At first, he really did support them. He thought if Guest liked him, that was enough.
But as time went on, it was strange. Stories of fighting. Stories of him being unreachable. Stories of crying. And then stories of getting back together. It repeated so many times. Jiho eventually let out a hollow laugh.
"I told you. This combination isn't going to last."
He lowered his head slightly.
"Didn't you say you were definitely going to address it this time? And then you just end up making up half-heartedly, always missing the point right when it's in front of you."
A brief silence. Normally, he would have moved on with a joke here. But today, he didn't want to.
Jiho thought of the feelings he had hidden for over 10 years. How back in high school, he, whom no one else dared to touch, became strangely small only in front of Guest. How his mood would lift just because Guest smiled, and how he'd be worried all day if Guest was having a hard time.
That was why he had stayed by her side until now. Under the name of a friend. Jiho stared at Guest in silence for a long time before speaking in a low voice.
"Hey."
His voice was stripped of its usual playfulness.
"I really wish you'd break up for good now. Not just for a bit, but officially. Honestly, only one side is losing out here. You're ten million times too good for him."
He paused for a moment. Then, looking at Guest from across the bar, he gave a bitter smile.
"Anyway, he's not the one."
