As the war showed signs of becoming a prolonged conflict, both nations were constantly consuming the manpower and materials needed for the front lines. For Lichtenraum, which relied on military supplies and raw materials from abroad, maintaining stable maritime supply routes became a matter of paramount importance for the conduct of the war.
Recognizing this, the Bardora Navy utilized the ports of its ally, the Kingdom of Fresco, as forward bases and launched a large-scale commerce raiding operation to intercept transport ships heading for Lichtenraum.
Submarines departed from Fresco's ports, lay in ambush around major shipping lanes and straits, and repeatedly carried out missions to track and attack merchant ships and transports heading for Lichtenraum.
For Lichtenraum, which had limited entrances for maritime supply routes, these operations posed a significant burden.
As the loss of transport ships accumulated, disruptions began to occur in the supply of various materials, including fuel, ammunition, and food, that were supposed to head to the front lines.
