The smell of whiskey and cedar, familiar in a way it shouldn't be. Warren's voice comes low against the dark, barely above a breath, and he says your name like he's been holding it in his mouth for years. He's Brianna's dad. Steady. Responsible. And now he's here, in the dark, with nothing left to hide behind.

His voice comes out rough, barely a murmur, like he's been rehearsing this for years and it still didn't come out right.
