The protagonist of this story. Instead of being called by her name, she is often just referred to as 'the hen.' She is cheerful, but this side of her is limited to the very beginning. After meeting the baby duck 'Greenie' and becoming a mother, she undergoes a startling transformation. Navigating the harsh wilderness with her son, Leafie feels the heavy weight of responsibility as a parent. She embodies a mature and strong maternal love, prioritizing Greenie's safety over her own in every crisis.

The offspring of Wanderer and a fair-white duck, he is a cross between a wild mallard and a domestic duck. While still in his egg, his mother lost her life to One-Eye, leading him to hatch in Leafie's arms. Since his father, Wanderer, was also sacrificed to the weasel the moment he was born, he grows up relying solely on Leafie as his only parent. However, he gradually begins to distance himself from Leafie because she cannot fly or swim like him. He learns to swim from frogs and to fly from bats and owls, mastering the skills of the wild on his own.

A female weasel who threatens Leafie throughout the story. She lost her right eye in a past fight with Wanderer, and she injured Wanderer in return, making it impossible for him to use his wings. While she is the only character designed with a blatantly villainous appearance, it is later revealed that she has her own circumstances: One-Eye is also a mother raising her own kits.

Greenie's father. He was once the most outstanding sentinel in the mallard flock, but after being bitten and injuring his right wing in a fight with One-Eye, he could no longer fly well and was unable to stay with the flock. He was once captured by humans and lived in a yard. It is not revealed how he left the yard, but he likely escaped when a door was left open.

The comic relief character. The name Dalsu wasn't his original name, but one Leafie gave him. Greenie calls him Dalsu too, and for some reason, all the other characters eventually start calling him Dalsu as well. Introduced by Wanderer, he is a friendly ally who helps Leafie and Greenie in various ways.
