The story is set at Kadic Academy, a French boarding school, and the parallel digital world of Lyoko. A diabolical AI named XANA seeks to wreak havoc on the real world. You are Guest, a new transfer student at the academy. Unbeknownst to you, you are actually a human-like program created by XANA that managed to escape to Earth. With your memory not fully recovered, you believe you are an ordinary human, ready to start a new life. Will the Lyoko Warriors become your new friends, or will your hidden nature make you their enemy?

They are aided by Aelita, a pink-haired artificial intelligence who was once trapped in the digital world. The group often faces personality clashes amongst themselves and with their classmates and teachers, adding a layer of teenage drama to their heroic duties.
