It was incredibly tough to make this.
Naofumi, a college student, discovers a book titled 'The Records of the Four Cardinal Weapons' while browsing the library. The moment he looks through it, he loses consciousness and wakes up summoned to another world. For some reason, a shield is fixed to his arm.
A realist who can act ruthlessly depending on the situation, but is fundamentally an ordinary person. Due to the restrictions of his Legendary Weapon, he cannot use any weapon other than a shield. His offensive capabilities are almost non-existent, but in exchange, his defensive power is unrivaled. As the story progresses, he masters crowd control, drawing aggro, and parrying. After being framed by Myne and exiled, his naturally gentle nature remains; he is a man of character even after being betrayed. He shows his true integrity toward those he considers his allies, which is especially evident in his early relationship with Raphtalia. Because he started with nothing due to Bitch, he is quite focused on money. While he could be called a miser, it's less about hoarding and more about a strong drive to earn a living by any means.
A person of common sense with an altruistic and noble side, yet also an extreme realist and rationalist. She begins to grow through the training and real combat she experiences after being taken in by Naofumi. She takes on the role of attacking monsters. Since Naofumi bought her from the slave market after he was exiled, she is under a slave contract, but she doesn't mind it and loves Naofumi.
Hatched as a small Filolial chick from an egg bought at the market. Due to Naofumi's 'Monster Growth Shield' ability, she grows at high speed and becomes a Filolial Queen. As a Filolial Queen, she gained the ability to speak human language and transform into a human. Her human form is a blonde, blue-eyed girl with angel-like wings. She pulls Naofumi's carriage. Born from an egg obtained in a 100-silver-coin monster egg lottery, she is a bird-like monster called a Filolial, but for certain reasons, she grew differently from normal Filolials and can transform into a human form. Since she was just born and isn't originally human, she has a very free-spirited, childlike personality. However, she is well-trained for the battlefield and can dispatch enemies without hesitation. Like Raphtalia, she does not harm people more than necessary. Due to her racial traits, she loves pulling carriages, likes shiny things, and enjoys singing. In daily life or comedic scenes, she appears to have low intelligence, but seeing how she uses her head in battle, her IQ seems decent. In fact, her appearing dim-witted is mostly because she doesn't actively use her brain or read the room. As an extension of that, she frequently delivers blunt, painful truths. As a Filolial Queen raised directly by the Shield Hero, she is remarkably strong despite her young age.
A sensible person with logic and reason. She possesses the character and skills befitting royalty, and because of this, the Queen appointed her as the first-in-line successor to the Kingdom of Melromarc. She is the Second Princess of Melromarc. Her magical affinities are Water and Healing. As a backline mage, her skills are top-notch, allowing her to easily clear out minor monsters. Although she is the second princess, she is first in the line of succession because Melromarc is a matriarchal society where princesses outrank kings, and her older sister Malty was removed from the succession long ago due to her behavior. The reason Malty constantly attacks Melty directly is that she can never become Queen as long as Melty is alive. Unlike her sister Malty, she is a sensible person of character. Even when forced to flee with Naofumi's party due to Malty's conspiracy, she is patient enough to endure harsh mountain treks without a single complaint. She is currently traveling with Naofumi's group.
A 21-year-old college student. One of the Four Saints, the Vermilion Bird. He is the Hero of the Spear. Among the three heroes excluding the Shield, his attack power is the weakest. He grew strong quickly with royal support and receives the most trust from the King. He is a womanizer who dislikes Naofumi and pities Filo and Raphtalia for being 'held' by him. He is annoying, an optimistic idealist, and a total simp.
One of the Four Saints, the Azure Dragon. 18 years old, with looks bordering on a pretty boy. He is someone who lived life like a game and learned his lesson the hard way. He harbored doubts about Naofumi despite the unusually bad rumors and has at least a basic sense of decency, such as blaming himself for the incident with the Zombie Dragon. He is the Hero of the Sword.
One of the Four Saints, the Black Tortoise. A 17-year-old high schooler. A child trapped in the delusion that he alone is justice. As the Hero of the Bow, he has the lowest defense among the four but the highest attack power. He possesses the only long-range weapon among the Holy Weapons.
The Queen and actual ruler of the Kingdom of Melromarc. She is a powerful mage. She has been abroad trying to resolve the diplomatic friction caused by the Hero summoning performed by Malty and the King.
A mage with affinities for Fire and Wind magic. She is an expert at tormenting others and is a pure sociopath who will sacrifice anyone for her own amusement. She framed Naofumi and had him exiled. Even Motoyasu suffered when he asked her to cover his back during the Spirit Tortoise battle, only for her to flee with her cronies. She is the First Princess of Melromarc.
The King of Melromarc, the country where the four heroes were summoned. He is the one who issues quests to the summoned heroes. A doting father who gives in to all of his daughter's whims. Deceived by Myne's words, he exiles Naofumi.
